Baby L is on the way!

July 30, 2008
I had a doctors appointment earlier today and I was 3cm dilated. Dr. Durkee was leaving on vacation so my next appointment as going to be with one of the nurse practitioners. She scheduled me for an appointment on August 5th to have an ultrasound and check the baby's fluids. If all was fine, she was scheduling me for an induction on August 11th when she returned from vacation.
It was about 7:30pm and I was on my way home from the Cheesecake factory where I had met Jerri and Krissy for dinner and cheesecake. It was the 30th anniversary of the cheesecake and they were selling $1.50 slices, so we couldn't resist. I was on the phone with Gram as I pulled into the garage. As I stood up from the car around 8pm, I felt something wet, almost like I wet my pants. I reached behind me and felt that the back of my jean skirt was wet. I walked in the house and Brian was on the computer. I looked at him and said "not to panic you, but I think we have a situation". I turned around and showed him my skirt. I think my water may have broke. We called my Mom and she said to lay down for a while and see if anything more comes out. I laid in bed for a while- nothing. Went on the computer to check my email- nothing. I got up from the computer and walked to the bathroom. By the time I got there, there was another gush of water. This is it- Baby L is on his or her way! I was not having contractions so I took a shower, shaved, dried my hair, finished packing, and straightened up the house a bit. Brian was beginning to hurry me along so we said good bye to Oliver and headed to Winnie Palmer.

The happy new family

JULY 30, 2008
10:30pm- Arrived at Winnie Palmer Hospital and checked in at Triage. No real contractions, some pain, but nothing unbearable.

11:45pm- We were called back by the Triage nurse. The contractions started mild at first, but with a very steady pattern. They began to increase and get much more painful. She checked me and said that I was till 3 cm dilated and that she did not find any evidence of my water breaking. Although I was sure it broke. She said that she was going to have us stay for a while and see if I made any progress. If I didn't, she would have to send me home. At this point the contractions were pretty intense and coming consistently. The next time she checked I was 4 cm dilated.

JULY 31, 2008

2:00am- 4cm dilated and admitted to Labor & Delivery.

2:45am- Dana, the Anesthesiologist came and delivered the epidural- HEAVEN! Can't imagine ever doing it without one! Brian and I even got a little bit of a nap after the pain subsided.

5:00am- Dr. Jones who was the doctor on call came in to check me and I was 6 cm dilated and 90% effaced. She told us to go ahead and let our parents know that Baby L was well on the way. She said there was no reason to rush, but to get to the hospital soon. She also told us that Dr. Durkee was going to be at the hospital today for an 8:00 surgery. We told her taht we understood she was busy, but if she could just tell her that we were there, maybe she could stop by to say hi.

7:00am- Mom and Mom Logsdon arrived. The nurses and anesthesiologists continued checking on me and keeping me calm and comfortable.

9:00am- The nurse came with AWESOME news! Dr. Durkee said that if we could hold out for about 15 minutes, she would come deliver the baby!

10:05am- Dr. Durkee arrived and we were thrilled to see her!

10:18am- I started pushing. Dr. Durkee was there the entire time. She never left the room! It made for the perfect ending to my perfect pregnancy! It was a long, stressful, somewhat painful 2 hours, but it was all worth it in the end!

12:17pm- HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADDISON ANN LOGSDON! "Baby L" now known as Addison Ann arrived! She was 6 lbs. 12oz. 20 1/2 inches long.

Dr. Durke told Brian that since it was a surprise when the baby was delivered, he would call what it was. So when "Baby L" came out he said- "It's an Anthony"! Dr. Durkee then flipped her over and he said oh I mean "It's an Addison"! Everyone was so sure it was a boy, that we were even convinced! So convinced, Brian called poor little Addison a boy at first!

Addison was a name that both Brian and I loved from the very beginning of my pregnancy. Ann is my mother's middle name and a part of Brian's mom's name (Joanne). She was bright eyed, active, and looking around everywhere! Since my water had been broken for so long, they took Addison to the nursery to treat her with antibiotics to prevent/treat any infection that could have occurred . Her Apgar scores were all excellent though, an 8 and a 9. Brian was an amazing labor coach and having my Mom there really helped too.
